Oh come on people! Other parts of Oakland are begging for shopping center and you spoiled brats are complaining about something that really looks nice. Safeway at least designs something that looks attractive. And with the new families moving into the area I would think that an opportunity of having upscale shops near by instead going all the way to "the Creek" would be a welcomed alternative. Stop complaining and be grateful you have this chance. People near the foothill shopping center have lost so much and yet you guys complain. Hell, you guys complain at a drop of a hat.

Safeway can't even properly manage the land it owns now. Look at all the bums it permits to loiter and panhandle just out side its entrance. What about all the smoking that goes on around Starbucks.

[...] Welcome to July, Oakland! The city council ushered in the new month by passing a new budget for the fiscal year; read about it some of the changes here. Public transportation just got more expensive, as today marks an increase in Bart and AC Transit fares. Oakland North also started a new food blog, Oaktown Eats; check out our review of La Calaca Loca in Temescal and their scrumptious tacos de carnitas. Also, for an update on the Safeway redevelopment meeting click here.
Are you sure Safeway said that they cannot legally build housing because they only lease the land? It's possible that the terms of their lease forbid housing, but there certainly is no legal barrier to building housing on leased land.
