Why does one of the top universities in the world have to spend $3 million of taxpayer money for consultants to do what should be done internally by UCB Chancellor Birgeneau?
Who teaches auditors how to audit? Do UC professors not have the knowledge to perform what they teach?
Having firsthand knowledge of consulting, I know one cardinal rule, "Don't bite the hand that pays you."
In a nutshell, we have a high-paid, skilled UCB Chancellor who is unable or unwilling to do the job he is paid to do. Why do we wonder that UC and California are in a financial crisis!
I'm sure taxpayers would not object to the $3 million payout if the money is reimbursed by taking money from the UCB Chancellor's salary over the next 10 years.
Stop the spending of $3,000,000 on consultants by President Yudof and the UCB Chancellor Birgeneau and do the workinternally
Respectfully

And while they're at it, somebody should hang a banner that say's "just remember officers, if you kick us out of here, you're giving up a ton of overtime pay"

I see a number of sneaky tactics being used here by UC and the police to stifle further dissent.

The burglary charges will all be dropped eventually. The only reason they exist is that the authorities are using them as a threat against the students. Obviously behind closed doors, the message was "if you brats do this again, we really will prosecute".

Also, the trial date is being set on December 23rd for two malicious reasons. First, because Cal is not in session on the 23rd, the date makes it easier for UC Police to lock down campus. Second, setting the date on the 23rd forces all students who's families live outside of the Bay Area to alter their travel plans around the christmas holiday. This will cost them money and keep them away from their families, disrupting their lives away from university. I believe both of these consequences are deliberate.

Cal students should ignore the threats of burglary prosecutions and resume their protests. The UC Regents bet the whole systems retirement funds on the stock market and lost big time. Now they're telling the students to pay for their mistake.

The hell with that. Protest some more! Protest until all the police overtime for Berkeley's City police force gets so expensive that the only cops who stay are UC police.
