Every week, Oakland North will publish a photo submitted by one of our readers. This week’s photo is by Jimmy Chan.
The photo, he writes, was taken while touring the bridge construction as a guest of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Caltrans. The shot, he says, was “taken atop the new Bay Bridge tower, looking down and east. The orange netting is a temporary walkway for workers. The walkway is tied to the single, nearly mile-long cable that is anchored on the east end, goes up into the tower, down the western side, cradling the belly of the bridge, back up into the tower, and then anchored into the opposite side of the eastern end again; it’s a giant sling.”
If you’d like to contribute to “community photo of the week,” just send a favorite photograph taken in Oakland to staff@oaklandnorth.net with the subject: PHOTO. Please make all photographs large-sized and in jpeg format. Oakland North cannot pay for community photos, except in gratitude and local love.
