I am a long time supporter of the mayor but on the issue of Margaret Gordon I find her totally misguided. Ms. Gordon was working on environmental quality and fighting for West Oakland residents while the mayor was still a PTA mom at Joaquin Miller and not in politics. When Dellums appointed her it was the first time we the pepople had a representative on that commission. Mr. Buttner is an astute businesmen but he has taken from the neighborhood, not given. Even DelaFuente who used the same argument to block Ms. Gordon, the mayor now advances”we need business people on the port commission” recognizes how tired and trite that arguement is and voted to keep her on the commission. Maargaret Gordon has been a singular force rallying the folks in that community around air polution. She needs to stay, and our mayor needs to support the peole who mend, and keep the fabric of our community together in the face of high odds.
