Affordable vs Low-income is a good point. Oakland residents don’t need more restaurants, they need affordable, real food. Raw food and beautiful streets. Not $25 pork chops and nettle pizza.

Do we know specifically if this is Affordable Housing or Low-Income housing? I’ve seen both reported in regards to the California Hotel and actually most other development projects…

Affordable housing is intended to be affordable for those households earning a % of the median household income for the area, in Alameda County this would be $69,000+. Often times this actually comes out to a fairly high number, that is, it would be deemed “Affordable” for someone earning 50-80% of the median. (Say $34,500/yr.)

On the other hand, Low-Income housing is usually for household earning something like 20-50% of the median, and/or those we aren’t earning at all.

I’ve passed by the California Hotel for over 20 years and all along never knowing it had such a rich history.

If they haven’t already considered this… I’d like to see EBALDC return the ground floor spaces on their residential properties back to commercial uses.
