New Year’s Eve 2012 events in Oakland, plus what’s open during the New Year’s holiday

Out with the old and in with the new. The Oakland North staff has put together a list of special events happening around Oakland this New Year’s Eve 2012. As always, we have included the holiday schedules for the AC Transit and BART and in this issue of “What’s Open” we include the schedule for the Broadway Shuttle as well.  Happy New Year!

POP New Year’s Eve Party

New Year’s Eve with Pete Escovedo and Sons Latin Jazz Orchestra

Latin jazz legend Pete Escovedo begins a four-day stand at Yoshi’s. Shows run December 28-31, with special 4-course dinner and show packages on New Year’s Eve. More information and ticket prices here.

Oakland’s New Year’s Eve Black Comedy Explosion

Chabot New Year’s Eve Balloon Drop

Ring in the New Year without staying up all night – come to Chabot and celebrate strokes of midnight around the world at 11am, 1pm, and 4pm! Kids count down and catch colorful balloons as they drop from the ceiling to receive a special prize. Non-member registration begins October 24.

If you think you’ve done a little too much holiday celebrating…

Broadway Free Shuttle
On Monday, December 31, the shuttle will provided extended service hours from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. for those celebrating the New Year in the downtown area.  It will run along Broadway from Jack London to 27th Street, turning onto Telegraph between 16th and 20th Streets.

This service is in addition to regular daytime shuttle hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

BART
BART will run until 3 a.m. with special service after 8 p.m. to and from San Francisco. Please review the special notice for additional information about the schedule and stop locations.

On New Year’s Day BART trains will follow the Sunday schedule for times and stop locations. Regularly scheduled service resumes on Wednesday, January 2.

AC Transit
All AC Transit Local and Transbay lines will run on a weekend schedule on New Year’s Day. Regularly scheduled service resumes on Wednesday, January 2.

AAA Tipsy Tow Program
Monday, December 31 – Tuesday, January 1, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

AAA Tipsy Tow Program offers a one-way ride for driver and his/her vehicle a free tow home up to 10 miles for drinking drivers in Northern California – members and non-members alike – from 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until 6 a.m. New Year’s morning. Call (800)-222-4357 (AAA-HELP) and tell the operator “I need a Tipsy Tow.” For more information click here.
