Oakland forum explores pros and cons of Propositions 30, 38 for schools

On Wednesday night, “Stand Up for Our Children: A Community Forum” at the Oakland School for the Arts in downtown Oakland brought together educators, administrators and local political figures to discuss two propositions on the November ballot that could generate new funds for public schools by raising taxes for Californians. Activists campaign for free bus passes for students

Oakland activist group Genesis is campaigning for the creation of a free bus pass for students in Alameda County. During a town hall meeting the group organized at the First Congregational Church on Thursday evening, hundreds of supporters showed up and chanted “Get on the bus!” to a rolling video camera, urging elected officials to invest in the bus pass program.
