Environmental barrier gives students at one Oakland school a chance at fresh air

Students at Brookfield Elementary School in East Oakland play on the school's blacktop after school. A vegetation barrier was installed at the school by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in an attempt to reduce air pollution at the school, which is situated by one of the busiest freeways in the Bay Area.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and several Bay Area-based organizations have planted a vegetation barrier to try to reduce air pollution at an East Oakland elementary school.
