Governor signs bill slowing expansion of for-profit immigration detention facilities

Seventeen-year-old U.S. citizen Jennifer Bravo applauded the passage of SB 29, which would prevent the expansion of immigration detention centers. Her mother is currently incarcerated at Mesa Verde Detention Facility and may be deported to Mexico.

A new law bars the expansion of for-profit immigration detention facilities in California, marking strong opposition to the Trump administration’s efforts to expand detention centers and ramp up deportations.
