Demo to bankers: “Jail ’em, don’t bail ’em!”

OCT. 19–A crowd of about 100 demonstrators greeted members of the Mortgage Bankers Association Sunday afternoon as they arrived at the Moscone Center in Downtown San Francisco for their 95th annual conference.
Local groups including the Answer Coalition, Cindy Sheehan for Congress and Code Pink called the demonstration, charging mortgage bankers with responsibility for the current financial crisis. “The people that are foreclosed on are sometimes painted up as ‘well, they should’ve known better,’” says Temescal resident and Answer Coalition member Bill Hackwell. “Well, the banks knew, and they should’ve known better then to give out these loans,” he said. “But in the process they made millions and millions of dollars worth of profit at the expense of normal people.”
