Oakland Bites: Bacon-wrapped Twinkie Stonehenge

on April 6, 2009

While I do care about what I eat, I’m no stranger to the cheeseburger. Or french fries, or cookies or a million other things that are bad for me. I mean, I’m not eating Twinkies for breakfast or anything (I’ve actually never had one), but I’m not averse to a little junk food in my diet. Which is why I was so surprised at my reaction to thisiswhyyourefat.com. A friend of mine had it as her away message, and as I started clicking through, I kind of thought I might vom. Somewhere between the bacon-wrapped Twinkie Stonehenge and the breakfast cake with gravy frosting, I started to get a little queasy. I’m still confused by this, given that I have wanted to try a deep-fried Oreo ever since I read about it in high school, but the idea of Happy-Meal pizza and corn dog casserole* makes me want to stick to quinoa and flax seeds for the rest of my life.

I really thought I would try any food at least once, but the White Castle Casserole has made me realize I’m just not the adventurous eater I thought I was. What about you? Is there a type of food that will never cross your lips, or are you game for just about anything?

*In the spirit of full disclosure, I did once eat a footlong corn dog at the Texas state fair. And I liked it.
