The Week That Was: Education

on May 22, 2009

Oakland was no slouch this week in education news.

First, the Oakland Unified School District opted to go local on their pick for the new superintendent, Tony Smith.  Check out the Trib article here.

The public also weighed in on the winning candidate at a town hall meeting on Wednesday. See what they had to say.

API (Academic Performance Index) scores for Oakland schools are out.  Check out how your child’s school did and see what some residents are saying.

Also, the Charter School bill (AB 980) which will affect charter schools in Oakland, among other districts, passed the State assembly.  Katy Murphy has more to say here.
