North Oakland Now 6.18.09
on June 18, 2009
Downtown Oakland is the place to be tonight.
Uptown Unveiled is a street festival with a ton of cool things to do like tours of the renovated Fox Theater, art installations, samples from uptown restaurants and plenty of activities for the kiddies. The epicenter of the action will be at 19th Street and Telegraph Ave. from 5-10p.m. Download the event schedule and map before you go to make your plan of attack.
If you’re tired of being on your feet, check out the Bay Area Battle of the Bards as the Oakland Poetry slam team competes against Berkeley, San Francisco and San Jose at the Fox Theater at 8:30 p.m. Tickets for this grand slam are $15.
If you’re ready to do something completely different check out some Black Science Fiction flicks at the Afrofuturism Film Festival. Hop on the BART down to the 12th Street station and you’ll be right around the corner.
