Festivals and political news in the Bay Area

on October 16, 2010

A harvest moon party is taking place right in Oakland, hosted by the Oakland Fukuoka Sister City Association and the Golden State Bonsai Collection North. There will be Japanese food, entertainment, and moon viewing at the Lakeside Park Garden Center, 666 Bellevue Ave.  Festivities start at 5:30 pm.

On the politics front, former President Bill Clinton will be stopping by San Jose State University to rally for fellow Democrats Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom.  Brown is vying in a close race for governor against Republican opponent Meg Whitman while Newsom is battling Abel Maldonado for the office of lieutenant governor.  Doors will open at the state school’s event center area at 6:30 pm.

Additionally, all California voters should keep in mind that Monday, October 18, is the last day to register to vote in this state.   If the registration form is mailed in an envelope postmarked on the 18th, the registration is still valid, so send those out as soon as possible.
