Sandbags available for Oakland residents
on October 17, 2010
BART will be giving away hundreds of prizes according to a recent announcement. Those who enter by Monday, October 18 before midnight have a chance to win prizes like free tickets to an October 23 Cal football game or free tickets to the Oakland Museum’s celebration for Days of the Dead. More information at http://www.mybart.org/contests/index.php.
Also important news for Monday: starting at 8:00 am, Oakland residents can get up to 20 sandbags and up to 50 feet in plastic sheeting from Oakland fire stations in advance of winter storms. This was the notice published by Oakland Public Works agency for previous years:
“In preparation for the start of the rainy season in the Bay Area, the City of Oakland Public Works Agency is taking proactive measures to prepare for the wet weather. During the last couple of months we have been working to remove debris from storm drains and have deployed extra maintenance crews to address other storm-related issues. In addition, there are opportunities available for volunteers to assist during the rainy season. The Public Works Agency is proud to be of service to the Oakland community.”
