Fair Trade Holiday Market

Cathedral of Christ the Light: 2121 Harrison Street, Oakland
The market starts on Friday and runs through Christmas Eve. Fair Trade arts, crafts and food from around the world will be for sale. Cost: free
ZooLights Christmas Light Show
5:30 to 9 pm
Oakland Zoo: 9777 Golf Links Road, Oakland
ZooLights runs from December 3 through January 2, except for December 24 and 25. The zoo boasts over 120 lighted animal structures along with the Snowball Express – a miniature steam engine train – giant toy soldiers, and oversized candy canes, lollipops, and gingerbread cookies. Cost: adults $7.50, kids and seniors $5.50
Anniversary Party & Holiday Art Show
6 to 10 pm
Actual Cafe: 6334 San Pablo Avenue, Oakland
Actual Café is celebrating its one-year anniversary. Their holiday art show will include art from local artists – Brian Richardson, Eva Silverman, and Alexis Babayan – and live music from The Vultures and For Fear the Hearts of Men are Falling. Cost: free
‘Things Are Expanding’ Collaboration Art Show
6 to 10 pm
Swarm Gallery: 560 Second Street, Oakland
14 of Swarm Gallery’s artists invited an artist of their choosing to come collaborate with them on a work of art. The opening will display all 14 pieces. There will also be live music and performances. Cost: free

Hot for the Holidays: Holiday Gifty Art Sale
10 am to 4 pm (Sunday as well)
The Crucible: 1260 7th Street, Oakland
The Crucible is opening up their 56,000 square foot studio to over 70 Bay Area artisans offering unique holiday gifts. There will be live industrial art demonstrations in welding, blacksmithing and glass blowing. The Crucible’s Bike Shop will be selling bikes for all ages, Kinetic Steam Works “Pappy” will be in attendance, and Santa will make an appearance at 1 pm. Cost: free
Laundry to Landscape: Greywater Workshop
11 am to 1 pm
North Oakland Arlington Medical Center: 5715 Market Street, Oakland
Planting Justice hosts a workshop on the benefits of greywater and how you can turn your own wastewater into water that can be reused in your garden. Cost: free
25th Annual Holiday Gift Show
11 am to 6 pm (Sunday as well)
Oakland Marriott Convention Center: 10th Street and Broadway, Oakland
The Gift Show supports African American and other minority small businesses, offering them a chance to sell their unique gifts. Cost: adults $5, kids 12 and under are free
Favianna Rodriguez’s Annual Art Jam & Open Studio
11 am to 8 pm
Studio & Casita: 1505 33rd Avenue, Oakland
Favianna Rodriguez will be displaying her art as well as leading a print demonstration. DJs will be spinning everything from funk to electro throughout the event. Cost: free
Meet the Dog Whisperer: Cesar Milan

The Cellar, Macy’s Union Square: 170 O’Farrell Street, San Francisco
It’s Macy’s Family Fun Day 2010 and Cesar Milan will be answering questions and signing autographs of his new book, “‘Cesar’s Rules’ Your Way to Train a Well Behaved Dog.” Cost: free
Photo with Santa and his Sleigh

Photolab-Berkeley: 2235 5th Street, Berkeley
Come get your free photo with Santa in his Sleigh at the Photolab in Berkeley. A professional photographer will be on hand to take photos and they will be ready by 5 pm the same day. Cost: free

Shop, meet Santa, and enjoy live performances from: Oakland Tech High School Chorus, Holiday Characters, Cantare Con Vivo, Oakland Tech Jazz Band, and Sweet Carolers. Cost: free
Sword & Sorcery Indie-Fantasy Comics Reading

Comic Relief: 2026 Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley
Five creators of these fantasy tales will bring their stories to life with a live reading. Cost: free

Ninja Warrior Competition and Obstacle Course
9 am to 2 pm
CrossFit Marin: 412 Tamal Plaza, Corte Madera
25 of the Bay Area’s best athletes will compete in the “Traceur” (expert) level Ninja Warrior course. A Japanese game show, Ninja Warrior is a race through an obstacle course of extreme physical challenges. Wannabe adult and kid ninjas can come run the course from 9 am to 11:30 am. Free Holiday Snow Park & Mobile Zoo
10 am to 6 pm
San Francisco City Hall: 46 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco
Mayor Gavin Newsom will be on hand to welcome everyone to the first-ever City Hall Holiday Open House. Everyone will be able to meet to the Mayor and many other city officials, as well as tour City Hall. The snow park will be located in the Joseph L. Alioto Performing Arts Piazza, along with other attractions and live music. A mobile zoo will be open from 1 to 3 pm. Cost: free
