A 19-year-old Oakland resident was shot at approximately 9:30 pm Tuesday by a robber who made off with his backpack, according to a press release from the Oakland Police Department.
The victim was walking from his car to a home on the 2700 block of 25th Avenue in the Fruitvale neighborhood when approached by a suspect who grabbed his backpack. According to the OPD, the two struggled, then the suspect fired at the victim and ran off with the backpack. The victim is currently at the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Neither the name of the victim nor any identifying information about his attacker have been released, but the OPD says it has increased patrols in the area and that Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information in this case.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Oakland Police Felony Assault Unit at (510) 238-3426.
