OPD asks for help identifying masked man at CVS

on March 9, 2012

The Oakland Police Department has released surveillance photos from an incident early Friday morning in which a man wearing a ski mask entered the CVS drugstore at 51st Street and Broadway and demanded to speak to the manager. The store had not yet been opened to the public. The employees immediately fled and called police around 6:40 am.

A SWAT team was dispatched to investigate whether the man was still in the store, but did not find anyone there. According to an OPD press release, the store’s surveillance video system showed that the man left the shop shortly after the employees fled.

It is not known whether or not the man was armed, but employees told police they did not see him carrying a weapon.

The man is described as African American, approximately 5’6″ to 5’8″ feet tall, weighing about 140 pounds, and wearing a dark zip-up jacket, black pants and a black backpack.

The parking lot and the nearby streets were temporarily sealed off while the SWAT team conducted its investigation, but had been reopened by 11:15 am.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department Major Crimes Section at 510-238-3326.
