Occupy Oakland’s May Day in photos

on May 2, 2012

Thousands of people marched through the streets of Oakland on Tuesday as part of Occupy Oakland’s May Day protest. Oakland North reporters were on the scene throughout the day, from the morning protests at Child Protection Services, to the nighttime clashes between protesters and police.

If Occupy Oakland ever really had a goal (doubtful), it has been completely lost. OO is just a band of lazy, misguided, intellectually confused troublemakers with too much time on their hands.

Luckily, no Oakland residents were murdered last night because police forces were overloaded. The blood of Pete Cukor is on the hands of Occupy Oakland.

I was excited to see these photos because I was only at OGPlaza from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. I realize stuff happened before and after that. But I was there for almost 5 hours! I wonder where the photographers were then because I didn’t see *any* representation of the rally when the marchers from Fruitvale BART met those of us waiting to greet them at OG Plaza. It was simply beautiful! I see there are lots of photos of destruction and it seems like the same group of Black Bloc over and over. That wasn’t all there was to the day. Why no photos of the incredibly beautiful Aztec dancers at OGPlaza? Or even the comical bashing of the pig pinata? Or the mellow and very nice group of folks at OG Plaza who were playing some pretty great music? These photos seem to fuel the flames of all the negative reporting we can get from any mainstream media outlet. tsk tsk. Very disappointing.
