Adoptable animal of the week: Dempsey
on May 7, 2013
Oakland North is continuing with our feature. Every week, Oakland Animal Services will spotlight an “Animal of the Week” that’s up for adoption at their facility. This week it’s a cat named Dempsey.
In his dreams, Dempsey is a prize-winning raccoon-fighter. In reality, however, he is much too loving to harm anyone, which is probably why he kept getting beaten up by the raccoons at the feral colony he was rescued from. Dempsey is approximately 4-5 years old and is a very outgoing and social guy, who loves to curl up with people and have his belly rubbed. Once he is sure everyone knows how awesome he is, Dempsey will happily trot off for an adventure or sprawl out lazily in front of a window to watch “kitty TV.” Dempsey seems to do well with other cat-friendly cats, but is not too fond of dogs. He can sometimes get a bit overwhelmed with all of the affection he attracts, so he would do best with a guardian who is experienced at reading cat behavior and who does not have young children.

Dempsey has been neutered, microchipped, is current on his vaccinations and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. The adoption fee for Dempsey is $35. To adopt, all household members must meet with Dempsey, whether family or roommates.
Part of the Oakland Police Department, Oakland Animal Services is both an Animal Control unit–which is in charge of the city’s public safety and animal welfare–and a shelter, which helps abused, neglected and abandoned animals within its facility.
