Planned Parenthood opens on Seventh Street in West Oakland
on May 9, 2013
There are a number of free or discounted health clinics across Oakland — like La Clinica de la Raza in the Fruitvale, or Asian Health Services in Chinatown. Now, West Oakland has its own reproductive health clinic. Reporter Madeleine Thomas has the story of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte’s new location on Seventh Street.

This will be a good addition for the community. These locations do a lot of good for the community in terms of not just providing a crucial social service, but also educating youths on safer sexual practices.
I agree with Dante Frizzoli
It’s good to see this steady expansion in replacing and more than supplementing PPGG. I look forward to the opening of the Redwood City clinic.
West Oakland is a welcoming progressive home to Planned Parenthood. I would love to see a small branch of La Clinica opening here. An urgent care facility or a pediatric clinic would be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.West Oakland has made it clear that health is an issue we care about. Healthy food, clean air — these are fundamental concerns here. We are well located, especially the storefronts along 7th street, to accommodate the needs of people of other neighborhoods because of our easy parking and BART access. We can become a hub for health services. Bring it on!
