Oakland teachers prepare to strike on Thursday

Galvanized by the teacher strikes in Los Angeles and Denver, now Oakland teachers are preparing for their own. As they gathered to create picket signs last week and to protest the Oakland Unified School District’s hiring of substitute staff in case a strike occurs, teachers shared their reasons for planning to walk the picket line. The strike is currently expected to begin on Thursday, February 21.
