Election Day results: Gallo leads Oakland City Council District 5

on November 6, 2024

Early election returns showed incumbent District 5 City Councilmember Noel Gallo with a strong lead over challengers Erin Armstrong and Dominic Prado Tuesday night.

Gallo began his day walking the streets of District 5 accompanied by his wife and daughter. He stopped to visit homes, churches and schools, handing out flyers and door hangers and urging his constituents to vote. He planned to watch election results at home with family and friends.

For Armstrong, Election Day was started like any other day.  After working her job as a senior policy adviser to Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley, she hosted a small gathering of family, friends and campaign volunteers at her home, where they watched election results.

“Whether we win or lose, I know that I couldn’t do anything more than what I have already done,” she said early in the evening.

Dominic Prado spent most of the day over a hot stove, cooking for the Empower Oakland civic organization at the bloc15 event space in Jack London Square. He described himself as a spoiler, who was running not to win, but to help Armstrong win by peeling off votes from Gallo.

“At least her door would be open to folks,” Prado said. “She knows the inner workings of policy and politics and how to get stuff done.”
