For Oakland’s seniors, living on Medicare and Medi-Cal can be a challenge

Congress is currently debating a government run health care reform bill. Yet in old age homes and residential care facilities across the country, low-income seniors are already part of a government run health-care system– through Medi-Cal, the state’s health care program for the poor; and Medicare, the government-run health system for the over 65’s. Here among some of the low-income seniors in Oakland, government-run health care is not an issue to be debated, but the structure in which people live their lives.
