Wednesday morning, 9 a.m.
on November 25, 2009
Here was the assignment: On a Wednesday morning at 9 a.m., 17 reporters would disperse throughout North Oakland.
No appointments. No press releases. No plan. Just one hour alone with one corner of the city. One pen each, one notepad, one camera.
One hour to watch and to listen. Then one hour to write.
There was no grand design in their destinations, either. They just wandered out into Oakland to see what unfolded in front of them.
What happens when you don’t have a story?
