Teenagers, their families and adult students seeking a key to higher education attended the Black College Expo in Oakland Saturday. “While African-Americans and Latinos graduate high school at just over a 50 percent rate, the biggest challenge to college cited by black, Latino and Asian-American students gathered at the expo was paying for college,” reports the Bay Area News Group.

On Thursday, Montrera Middle School will mark the 50th anniversary of its wood shop program, the oldest in California.

The Oakland Tribune lists the best college recruits in the East Bay.

The Chronicle details state jobs funded by the stimulus act–including those in Alameda County.

How contaminated is the San Francisco Bay?  During the big storms in January, 630,000 gallons of raw sewage flowed into the Bay from 47 different spots.

    Just a note that the Oakland “Tour de Taco” takes place on Sunday, February 20, 2010 starting at 11am at Fruitvale BART, not January 31st as posted above.
