Police investigating burning body discovered in North Oakland

on July 14, 2011

Early Thursday morning, Oakland police officers and firefighters were called out to investigate a fire on the 5800 block of Ivanhoe Road in the Rockridge area and discovered the body of a woman burning in the street. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release issued this afternoon by the Oakland Police Department.

The victim has not yet been identified and the police department is investigating her death as a homicide, according to the OPD. The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau will now conduct an autopsy to determine whether she died during the fire or of another cause.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Oakland Police Homicide Section at (510) 238-3821. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.

Update July 15, 3:30 pm: Woman’s body identified.
