Friday, November 2

Art Murmur

6pm-9pm

Start at 19th and Broadway

Oakland’s Art Murmur, otherwise known as First Friday, is held on the first Friday of every month. The popular event is a free art walk with art exhibits from put on by local artists—from Jack London Square to the Uptown District. Art Murmur boasts 21 member galleries and nine mixed-use venues open to the public.

Bedtime with the Beasts at the Oakland Zoo

7pm Friday to 10am Saturday

The Oakland Zoo is hosting an overnighter! Come down at 7pm Friday for a private guided tour of the zoo, followed by snacks and fun activities. Then one of the zoo’s “education animals” will be introduced. Participants then sleep over at the auditorium, and come back to the zoo in the morning for a light breakfast and a chance to see the animals as they wake! Cost: $60 for adults and kids. Inside Out, A William Harsh Retrospective

6pm to 9pm

A show featuring some life’s work of painter William Harsh, who passed away last month. Called a third-generation expressionist, Harsh’s show is called “a testament to this artist’s journey of self-expression and sustained commitment to art making.” Location is Vessel Gallery, at 471 25th Street, Oakland. Kincaid’s Bayhouse Happy Hour

3pm to 6pm

Kincaid’s, located at 1 Franklin Street in Jack London Square, invites you to join them after a long week for a view, appetizers and a $4 happy hour cocktail menu.

Earl Klugh at Yoshi’s

Shows Friday, Saturday at 10pm and Sunday night at 8pm

Earl Klugh joins other musicians this weekend at Yoshi’s at Jack London Square in Oakland, with his acoustic guitar. Show also features special guests, including Nelson Rangell on saxophone and flute, David Lee Spreadley on keyboards and Al Turner on bass. Cost for the shows ranges from $25-$25.

Knife Party at the Fox Theater

Knife Party, a band who says they’re currently excited about the fusion of house and dubstep, are playing at the Fox Theater Friday night, starting at 7pm. Show is $39.50.

Dark Dark Dark at the New Parish

Doors 8pm, show 9pm

Dark Dark Dark is playing their new album “Who Needs Who,” at the New Parish on Friday, starting at 9pm. Cost is $15 at the door.

Brass Boppers at Disco Volante

 9pm

Come out to Disco Volante Friday night for a New Orleans-style singing and brass band, mixing traditional New Orleans melodies with modern songs. Show is $5.

Bands Judgement Day, Religious Girls and Cave Clove are playing the Uptown on Friday night. No cover because of First Friday.

14th Annual Bay Area Bead Extravaganza

11am-6pm

Oakland Marriott City Center,  1001 Broadway, Oakland

BABE’s website describes this event as the largest bead show on the West Coast. Includes beading classes and jewelry-making workshops, including a torch enameling class. Tickets cost $5; $7 with a coupon.

Abstract monotypes, etchings and small drawings by world-renowned Bay Area artist William Harsh will be exhibited and on sale.

Aerial dance troupe Bandaloop turn Oakland’s most famous wall into a dance floor.

At Vessel Gallery’s monthly jewelry trunk show, silver industrial body ornaments created by California College of the Arts graduate Elisa Bongfeldt are up for grabs. A 10 percent discount on Bongfeldt’s compositions is available this day only.

Proceeds from this banging queer dance party will be donated to anti-police brutality activist Mesha Monge Irizarry. This event is for ages 21 and up only. Tickets cost $5.

MTC Let’s Walk Together program
