free toys, turkeys and tickets

The city giveth:

Sign up this Saturday, November 21 to receive donated toys from the 2009 toy drive. To qualify, bring the following to Oakland City Hall, Hearing Room 3 from 10am-4pm:  picture ID, proof of Oakland residence, proof of childrens’ ages (kids 0-13 qualify) and proof of income. More on eligibility requirements here.

The city of Oakland is also hosting Thanksgiving Dinner for seniors, low-income families and homeless citizens on November 24th.  The 11am-2pm event features a turkey “feast”, live entertainment, a coat giveaway and free transportation.  For info on how to volunteer or donate a coat, call 510-238-2077

And the city taketh away:

A new red light camera will go into effect December 1st at the corner of 27th and Northgate. According to SFGate, the camera is the fifth one installed in the city. Oakland eventually plans to install twenty-eight.
