Community photo of the week: The girl in green
on December 1, 2010
Oakland North is adding a new feature to our site—every Wednesday, we will publish a photo submitted by one of our readers. This week’s photo is by Miranda Everitt.
Everitt took this photo in East Oakland at the Columbian Gardens food distribution center, which has volunteers giving out fresh produce from the back of an Alameda County Community Food Bank truck every Friday. This photo was taken on a cold and windy morning. Guadalupe, the girl in the photo, was there with her twin sister and her mother. Everitt says that with Columbian Gardens and the food bank offering fresh produce, low-income families like Guadalupe’s can focus on acquiring shelter and other basics, while still being able to eat healthy and fresh food.
