Section of Broadway closed to night traffic for next month
on February 28, 2011
The stretch of Broadway between MacArthur Boulevard and Piedmont Avenue will be closed on weeknights for four weeks beginning Monday, February 28. This is due to construction for the Kaiser Permanente Hospital replacement project.
The construction work will include trenching, pipe installment, paving and concrete pouring. Northbound Broadway will be closed from 10 pm to 6 am and Southbound will be closed from 7 pm to 6 am. Traffic will be re-routed to Piedmont and Telegraph Avenues.
During the daytime, Broadway lanes will be open with some single lane closures in construction areas. Parking and pedestrian access will not be affected.
Since Kaiser spokespeople say they believe the greatest impact to the neighborhood will be noise, they will be using a portable sound wall along with trying to confine the loudest construction activities to daytime and early evening hours.
