Oakland School for the Arts Chamber Choir hosts holiday concert

on December 8, 2011

The Oakland School for the Arts (OSA) Chamber Choir will tour in New Orleans in April 2012. Cava Menzies, who has  chaired OSA’s Vocal Music Department since the school opened in 2002,  is excited about taking 40 students on the educational excursion.

“It’s basically a concert tour,” Menzies said.  “Students get to study with local jazz musicians.”

The trip costs a total of $60,000 to cover travel expenses for students and chaperones.  Menzies, who also organized the school’s Concert Choir  Italy tour in 2006, says he understands the work needed to make the trip happen.

The choir is hosting  “Sounds of the Season – A Vocal Music Holiday Concert” at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension in the Oakland hills to celebrate the release of the choir’s new holiday CD and on New Years Eve will host a New Years Eve Masquerade Bash in Oakland.
