Bill Clinton visits Oakland for community service day
on April 20, 2016
Former President Bill Clinton recently came to Oakland on behalf of the Clinton Foundation’s Global Initiative. This year, 1,200 college and university students from across the country and around the world attended the ninth annual CGI University meeting, held at the University of California, Berkeley. On the last day, the forum hosted a day of action during which students from across the country gave back to the local community. The former President was joined by his daughter, Chelsea Clinton, as well as NFL player and Oakland native Marshawn Lynch, at Havenscourt Middle School in East Oakland. Volunteers made improvements such as gardening and painting the playground. The Clintons were also joined by Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and local school officials.
