Bi-monthly sketch night opens at Oakland’s Era Art Bar
on May 13, 2016
Oakland boutique store, barber shop and art gallery Massive is the driving force behind a brand new series of sketch night activities held at Era Art Bar. Launched on April 11 and to be held on the second Monday in every two months, the sketch nights are called “Dranks and Draws,” and are welcome to all who want to try their hand at sketching.
The curators of the sketch night are Kevin Correa, who is one of the owners of Massive, Paris Warr, and Dora Tsui. The three had met at the art exhibits Correa held at Massive, and had decided to put together an event that would draw art enthusiasts and people who simply enjoy creating art together.
“We started thinking of what drinks we’d like to mix, what ingredients we liked in our drinks if we could drink and draw at the same time…and that was it! ‘Dranks and Draws,’ the perfect name!” said Warr.
Paper and notepads will be provided at each “Dranks and Draws,” and the participants can settle into chairs or sofas with a drink of their choice, while a model poses on a stage to live music.
“We view art as a form of therapy, so we want our patrons to leave feeling better than they came in,” says Correa.
The series is a collaboration with some of the Bay Area’s leading cultural forces including art gallery 1 AM Oakland, art collective Haus of Godspeed, and lifestyle brands Team Terrible and Dreamers Rule.
