I found your web site while searching for recent info about Genova Deli closing. I’ve lived in Temescal (44th Street) for nearly 38 years. During the last 26+ years I’ve lived across from the Koryo Center mini-mall on Telegraph Ave. During this period of time, I’ve eye witnessed nearly non-stop crimes committed by its business owners and customers. Hard to believe? Try me. The karakoe club Jaguar does not have a liquor license, yet almost all of its patrons get smashingly drunk and many are underaged. Place is zoned as a “recording studio.” Last Sunday evening, the tavern Holy Moly remained open for business until 4:45 a.m. Last month, State of Calif. ABC closed it down for serving minors. Does anyone in Oakland know ABC has had zero night time investigators for well over 20 years. Not one! I can go on for days about the serious non-stop crime that OPD has ignored at this location for over 26 years.
I have lived across from North Oakland’s most major crime scene for over 26 years. It’s not what you might think – unless you frequently walk at a slow pace up/down Telegraph Ave. after midnight.
For over 15 years, this operation failed to pay sales taxes on what was over $100,000 receipts per month. After complaining in writing and by phone about massive numbers of drunken underage students getting drunk and very disorderly there for many years, ABC used its newly acquired funding to check out what I’ve been complaining about for 26 years. On New Year’s Eve, investigators found dozens of under age Asian students drinking there. Bad new is the place was only closed for one month. I have eyewitnessed every type of major crimes being committed at this location for over 26 years including a savage ritual murder. I can detail hundreds – perhaps thousands – of major crimes committed at this location since 1990 – the year the Koryo Center opened. Interested? If so, bring a lot of note paper and several pens/pencils. I’m 72 and I don’t have many month left (no bs).
