As the nation responds to mass shootings, Oakland’s Teens on Target empowers students to end violence

After the February mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the Oakland Unified School district held an active shooter attack training for their staff and faculty. Although the training had been planned months before, the shooting in Florida motivated many Oakland teachers to attend it.
While students and teachers across the nation stand up against school shootings, Oakland high school students are standing up to daily gun violence in their communities. Youth Alive’s Teens on Target program, a program that creates a mentorship relationship between high school students and middle students, empowers students to become leaders and changemakers in their communities by creating awareness about violence in Oakland.
“Almost every single one of my students has a heart-wrenching story about gun violence that is very concerning,” said Hisham Ali Bob, a coordinator for Teens on Target.

Sorry but I don’t trust a government that simplistically tells its citizens to just say no to drugs while it just says yes to an gun industry,it´s all about the money, sad!
