The Oakland Police Department issued an alert regarding a robbery and sexual assault in the Lake Merritt area that occurred on the evening of Tuesday, January 18.
Oakland Police Chief Anthony Batts is being considered for the job of San Jose’s new police chief, after just more than a year of service in Oakland. Oakland Police Department spokeswoman Holly Joshi confirmed that Batts is one of two finalists for the position, but said that neither Batts nor the San Jose Police Department have made any decisions yet.

The Alameda County ARTSFUND Grant Program has just announced the release of the guidelines for applying for 2011 grants. ARTSFUND awards grants to non-profits to support arts programming of all kinds from dance to literature and music to visual arts. The deadline for applications is March 1, 2011.
