North Oakland Now 8.16.09

Today is the last day to enjoy the Art & Soul festival.  Here are ten reasons why you should give it a shot. BART union management and negotiators are back at the bargaining table.  The strike is still on, but there’s hope for a resolution. The search for missing 5-year-old Hasanni Campbell was extended to the Hayward shoreline and Coyote Hills Regional Park.

Oakland’s Art & Soul Festival starts today in downtown Oakland. The BART strike is still on and commuters are angry. The investigation of Hasanni Campbell’s disappearance involved a visit to Hayward junk yard.

The BART strike is still scheduled to begin on Sunday at midnight. Now is a good time to get familiar with the Trans Bay bus lines and plan ahead if the strike happens. Oakland North Now 8.13.09 – Update @ 5:07 p.m.

BART is on the brink of a strike that will start on Sunday at midnight. Hasanni Campbell is still missing. According to his foster father, Louis Ross,  Campbell was last seen in North Oakland.  Ross spoke to Oakland North and some other Bay area reporters to clarify a few details. Ross is scheduled to take a polygraph test today.

Serious police action this evening on a stretch of Rockridge’s College Avenue, the block just north of Chabot. Multiple squad cars are parked across College and police are turning away auto traffic and pedestrians while remaining tight-lipped about what’s underway, which they are so far describing as a “missing little kid.” Two people were shot in East Oakland this morning. Spoke cards

Once used mostly by messengers for identification in alleycat races, spoke cards have blown up. Although you still get them in alleycats, I now see all sorts of different decorative cards, birthday cards, and gang membership cards. In its bio on spoke cards, Wikipedia has this hilarious explanation on why non-messengers put cards in their spokes: “Other city riders sometimes fix spoke cards to their wheels as an affectation of messenger culture.” The next two weeks the Missing Link is…
