“Naked Ladies” art show brings feminist flair to Oakland venues

Images of naked and unashamed women are part of the show “Naked Ladies: Sexy. Raw. Owning it,” which began its run at a crowded reception during the First Friday Art Murmur on November 2. The exhibit features female-centric paintings, photographs, video art and mixed media created by 30 artists—mostly women—whose works deal with women’s ownership of their bodies, emotions and sexuality.

A’s fans watch World Series parade with dejection, unexpected hope

For many A’s fans, seeing the Giants flourish in the national spotlight—for the second time in three years—is a bitter end to what had once been a promising year for the A’s. But over one million people flooded into San Francisco from all over the Bay Area on Wednesday—including many from the East Bay, where fans clogged all BART lines into the city to see the Giants’ celebrate.

Oakland businesses prepare for Halloween rush

This Halloween, Oakland North asked a few local businesses—Powell’s Sweet Shoppe, the East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse, Piedmont Grocery and Piedmont Fabric—what they did to prepare for the holiday this year. Business owners said they began preparing for Halloween at least a month ago, and have seen their biggest rush of customers this week.
