Bay Citizen offers $5k for “ingenious solution” to community challenge

on April 5, 2011

The Bay Citizen, a Bay Area non-profit news organization that partners with Oakland North and other community news groups, is offering a $5,000 Citizen of Tomorrow award. The money will go to an individual or small non-profit who has come up with an ingenious way to solve a local community challenge. That challenge could be “addressing gang violence, lowering school dropout rates, providing job training, or greening a neighborhood,” Community Editor Queena Kim wrote in an email. Other ideas are welcome as well as long as the challenge and solution are clearly defined.

A committee will pick the five best applications (to submit, visit this link) and then The Bay Citizen will ask its readers to vote on the best submission, Kim wrote. The finalists will be posted online with videos about each, and people can choose their favorites.

Have an application? Know someone who might? Go to the application page on The Bay Citizen and get started. Good luck North Oakland!

FYI – the first link in the story (which should go to the Bay Citizen website) seems to be broken.
