A birthday party gone wrong: Police arrested a 15-year-old girl for shooting 18-year-old Davante Riley. Riley was celebrating his 18th birthday at an East Oakland apartment. City Council may vote to breathe new life into the Civic Walk housing project by providing a substantial loan. Follow up: North Oakland Now reported Saturday that a 59-year-old San Francisco man had been brutally attacked on Telegraph Avenue. Today the Chronicle has a full report.
Yesterday afternoon, 59-year-old San Francisco resident Tiansheng Yu was brutally attacked on Telegraph Avenue. He is in life-threatening condition. Because of the severity of the incident, homicide detectives were brought in to investigate. So far a motive has not been identified. Anyone with knowledge of the incident is encouraged to call the Oakland Police Homicide Section at (510) 238-3821.
Sam Williams, highly touted former city editor for the Oakland Tribune, died at the beginning of the month. The Trib ran a formal obit and feature on Williams in today’s paper. The Oakland East Bay Symphony will put on a special performance–their biggest of the season–tonight at the Paramount Theater under the direction of Michael Morgan. There’s still hope. Good morning, Oakland. In Oakland, four men have been shot to death in less than 48 hours, in four unrelated incidents. So far this year, 27 people have been killed in Oakland. Last year at this time, 30 had been killed. The American Civil Liberties Union and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights filed a brief challenging the gang injunction that City Attorney John Russo requested in February.
