The Art Murmur, Oakland’s monthly gallery walk, drew hundreds to the streets of downtown Oakland Friday despite the Labor Day holiday weekend and the closing of the Bay Bridge. New measures were undertaken by the Murmur this month to ensure safety and civility toward gallery walkers and neighborhood residents. A number  of Oakland artists are trying to pass down the tradition of screen printed posters to a younger generation – including its political history.  Melanie Cervantes, Jesus Barraza and Favianna Rodriguez  take on the challenge.  

Mexico defeated Nicaragua 2 to 0. The real game, however, started before the players even stepped on the field. The Oakland Coliseum parking lot was host to the tailgate party, where fans of Mexico and Nicaragua wave their flags and show their pride.
